ODBC (generic)
Reach anything with an ODBC driver.
Any database reachable through an ODBC driver, as a source for BARRY.
Capabilities: Source
What it does
Reads from databases that have no first-class connector — SAP HANA, Sybase, Teradata, Informix and similar — using a generic ODBC driver installed on the machine that runs the connection. It is the fallback that reaches systems nothing else does, at the cost of lower type fidelity and speed than a native connector.
Configuration
- A system DSN or a full ODBC connection string naming the driver and target
- Credentials, where the connection string does not already carry them
The ODBC driver for your target database must be present on the client machine that runs the connection.
Load strategies
- Full load — reads the whole table or query each run.
- Incremental (watermark) — reads only rows past a high-water mark you nominate.
Notes
Prefer a native connector where one exists; reach for ODBC when it does not. Some sources need explicit CAST in the query so the driver reports a type BARRY can map — the transport wizard helps convert a browse selection into such a query.
